Ru ware is praised as the "crown of Song ceramics" and, along with Guan ware, Ge ware, Ding ware, and Jun ware, is known as one of the "Five Great Kilns of the Song Dynasty" in Chinese ceramic history, with Ru ware as the most esteemed. The surface of Ru ware is smooth and glossy, soft and gentle, akin to jade and as smooth as greasy touch. Its unique oily feel has earned it the description "like jade but better than jade."
