The traditional Ge kiln porcelain has a thick glaze layer with a crackle pattern resembling a woven net, commonly referred to as "hundred cracks." These cracks are formed due to the clay body and glaze having different expansion rates during the firing and cooling process. If exposed to rapid temperature changes during the transmission of the porcelain, the cracks will continue to expand.
This is considered a flaw of the glaze, but skilled potters have ingeniously utilized it, controlling it within a certain range to create a unique and distinctive glaze decoration. Over time, it has gradually become an artistic focus for literati, especially since the Ming dynasty, who admired and appreciated Ge kiln porcelain.
