One of China’s Top Ten Famous Teas
Huangshan Maofeng is grown in high-mountain eco-tea plantations and produced using centuries-old techniques, making it one of China’s most renowned premium green teas. Its unique characteristic lies in using only buds—no leaves—resulting in a fresh, sweet taste and a light green, clear liquor.
During the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty, in She County, Anhui Province, a tea merchant named Xie Zheng’an gathered the freshest tea buds from various mountain fields and skillfully roasted them into a new tea. Thanks to its downy white hairs and sharp bud tips, he named it “Maofeng” (Fur Peak). It was an instant success in the market and helped establish She County as a celebrated tea-producing region in Anhui.
