A modern twist on a timeless classic, this Ru Ceramic Cola Cup reimagines the revered "sky-blue glaze" of Song Dynasty Ru ware for contemporary lifestyles. Handcrafted using traditional techniques, this cup blends museum-quality artistry with everyday functionality.
-
Classic Celadon Perfection:
Glazed in the iconic "sky-blue" (天青) hue—a tranquil, jade-like tone achieved through precise kiln control. The flawless, non-crackled surface (a rarity in Ru ceramics) showcases the glaze's pure, glassy depth. -
Full-Glaze Craftsmanship:
Fired using the prop-mark technique (支钉烧), ensuring complete glaze coverage—even the base remains unblemished. Tiny prop marks (3 dots) on the bottom attest to this ancient method. -
Versatile Modern Design:
With a generous 200ml capacity, it's perfect for cola, iced coffee, cocktails, or water. The ergonomic shape fits comfortably in hand, while the thick walls maintain beverage temperature.
I purchased this cup impulsively after watching a YouTube video depicting the Yu Kiln process. By the time it arrived, I’d forgotten my order, but fell in love with the little cup as soon as I saw it. This glaze is a beautiful, delicate blue, soothing and easeful to the eyes. To the hands it is equally soothing and sumptuous with its satin finish—like a ceramic version of the silk peau de soie of a Dior gown. The size and shape is also a joy. The size is slightly larger than the tiny cup my mother used to give me soda pop as a special treat when I was a child—it was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, but never so much to make me fat. Likewise I have found the size of this cup to be perfect for a demure but satisfying portion of rich kefir, mango lassi, or whole milk. The shape guides the beverage into my mouth gently so that it can be savored over all regions of my tongue. Having fully experienced the richness of these foods in taste and texture, it’s easy to be satisfied with a little. It’s impossible to find drinking cups with this kind of lip in big box stores. I am so happy that fate brought this one into my life.
Of course, the experience of using this cup is magnified by having watched the process of Yu Kiln pottery in the aforementioned video. It is a process fraught with disappointments for the potter; only a few cups survive each step so that the one that eventually comes to your hands is a treasure of survival—a treasure that you can admire and enjoy everyday, nourishing your mind with pragmatic art of exquisite simplicity while you nourish your body with food.
I like the quality of these glasses! Also, it was quite nice to find a little unexpected gift from the store - a small traditional hand fan
Thank you!
