Celadon glaze created using crushed agate in traditional Ru ware formulation

Ancient Well Curb, Timeless Sky Hue

Modeled after the stone curbs of Tang dynasty wells, the Jinglan (Well Curb) teapot carries the poetic symbolism of “drinking water with gratitude.” Its full, rounded form echoes a deep well, while its wide shoulder reflects the well’s rim—representing clarity, depth, and contemplation.

Celadon Glaze · Sky After Rain

Fired with a glaze formula containing crushed agate, this teapot achieves the iconic Ru celadon hue described as “the color of the sky after rain.” The fine crackle network across the surface will gradually darken with tea use, forming a delicate tracery of golden or iron-brown lines unique to each piece.

Five-Nail Firing · Imperial Legacy

Authentic to Song dynasty Ru kiln techniques, the teapot was fired resting on five small clay nails. This method minimized contact with the kiln shelf, allowing the glaze to flow freely and fully coat the form—preserving the luminous, even finish prized by imperial workshops.

Form & Meaning

The Jinglan shape was originally designed by Qing scholar-artist Chen Mansheng, expressing the Confucian ideal that “knowledge should be deep as a well, virtue as firm as its curb.” The spout rises gently like flowing spring water, and the handle curves like a well pulley, uniting classic aesthetics with ergonomic ease.
