A reproduction of the Northern Song Ru ware deep-bowl brush washer with sky-blue glaze. It features a circular mouth, thin walls, slightly thicker base, and pale sky-blue glaze covering the entire body. The piece is fired using the five-pin technique, with a flat base and no foot. The minimalist lines integrate the elegant form of Ru ware with the simplicity of its glaze. Song Dynasty ceramics emphasized understated beauty and refined shapes over ornate decoration, reflecting the literati's belief in natural simplicity and the prevailing aesthetic of subtle elegance. The original Song dynasty round brush washer is a rare form among surviving Ru ware, making it exceptionally precious.
As early as 2017, a Ru ware sky-blue glaze round brush washer was sold at a Sotheby's Hong Kong live auction for a final price of HKD 294 million, approximately equivalent to 37.7 million USD. (This sale set a world auction record for Song Dynasty ceramics at the time, reflecting the enduring value of Ru ware in collectible markets.)
