This handmade Yuanbao-style gaiwan is crafted from medium-white clay and shaped in the traditional “ingot” form, symbolizing quiet abundance and balance. Fired in a wood-burning kiln without applied glaze, the piece undergoes a natural transformation guided entirely by flame, ash, and time.
During firing, falling ash settles and melts across the surface, forming a dense natural ash glaze. Distinctive fire marks and kiln variations create a warm reddish-brown tone with subtle granular texture—each mark a record of its journey through flame. No two pieces are identical.
The overall character reflects a deep wabi-sabi sensibility: rustic, grounded, and contemplative. The tactile surface and earthy warmth invite slow, attentive tea practice.
